Focus
groups of teenage children were used during the initial testing stage. Children
from the families of the development team were involved in the early design
discussions to find out what they needed from a Careers Information package.
It was from this input that the highly acclaimed Personal
Preferences Careers Selector was developed, which allows children to
see career options which match their own feelings. It asks them about a
wide range of issues from wearing uniforms, to working shifts, and handling
"disgusting" things like body fluids. |
The
original recruitment CD-ROM was developed with the West Midlands Workforce
Development Confederation.
It involved Primary and Secondary Care Trusts in Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton,
Staffordshire, Shropshire, Hereford and Worcester. It was piloted in three
secondary schools including an inner city school with a mixed race catchment,
an urban high school with a mixed race but relatively privileged catchment,
and a rural high school. The feedback from these school trials resulted
in some changes to the detailed design. The revised design was piloted with
different children from the same schools with excellent positive feedback. |
